Ingredients

  • 3 pounds turkey wings
  • 1-1/4 cups barbecue sauce
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon soy sauce

Directions

  1. Cut turkey wings into sections; discard wing tips. In a large shallow dish, combine remaining ingredients; add wing sections. Turn to coat; refrigerate, covered, 6-8 hours or overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°. Drain and discard marinade from wings. Place wings in a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Bake, uncovered, 50-60 minutes or until a thermometer reads 170° and turkey is tender.

Barbecue Turkey Wing Tips

Should you wash turkey wings before cooking?

Washing or rinsing turkey, chicken and other meats before cooking seems like a logical thing to do, but it's actually something you should avoid. When you run water over the turkey wings, you'll inevitably have water splashing and landing on the countertop, backsplash, or wall and faucet. This spray could potentially contaminate other foods later on if they aren't thoroughly disinfected.

What can I do with the turkey wing tips?

The reason you cut off the wing tips is because they have a tendency to burn long before the rest of the wing is fully cooked. One of the best uses for the wing tips is to use them to make homemade broth. If you want a deeper flavor, roast the wing tips at 400°F, until they're a dark golden brown. Then, you'll end up with a rich, turkey-flavored broth. If you don't have enough wing tips, toss them in the freezer and save them until you have enough for a batch of broth.

What goes well with turkey wings?

Barbecued turkey wings have a smoky, sweet-yet-spicy flavor that just screams for something cool and refreshing to balance the flavors. Try serving them with a wedge salad, grilled corn on the cob, or serve with a side of Alabama white barbecue sauce for dipping.
